Hoping for new beginnings

The idea of doing something else work wise leaving the current line of work has been doin rounds in my mind (and more so in my heart) for sometime now...

I am tempted... cos i know i shouldnt kill this voice and take a new direction....

But the problem is...i dont know what direction is that.

If you are tempted... then succumb to it... may be its time to fly out of that country... ;) fly to east of india rather than west ;) What say? So now you know the direction as well...

I walk alone - Thats a thought there! :P
The problem is not the geography you see, but the line of work...

How about doing some 'meaningful work' ? When and if you are ready, International Development will welcome you with open arms. This sector could certainly use your skills, and at the end of each day you will feel satisfied for your efforts will brings smiles on several of those faces from whom even a smaile is luxury which they cannot afford...

Paradox Philic said...

Sane Insane - Thats a good idea...except that i dont want to do anything even remotely similar to what i am doing now.

Have you considered being a NLP practitioner?

Preeti said...

What is your heart saying?

Paradox Philic said...

Anand - NLP??

Paradox Philic said...

Preeti - My heart is telling me to stop doing what I am doing cos I am bored... but it doesn't go beyond that... doesn't tell me what should I do instead.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming

Then stop doing what you are doing.
The risk is that your head will step in. And it might force you to go back to where you are right now.

PS: I know im not helping out here. But i've been in this kind of a situation and i blogged as well as wrote poetry for one whole week. Did not do even a millisecond of work. I was fine by the end of it and got right back to work. You need understanding officemates though...before you venture into such realms of extremes...

Paradox Philic said...

Anand - Whats that??

Paradox Philic said...

Preeti - Well...i have been doing the same for quite some time now, ... do this & that non work along with the work (Yeah, what do you know, i am fast :P he he for someone who's got bored of her work!)

Anyway ...the temptation doesn't go away. And i would give in...act on it...go with my heart.... the moment i know what it is that my heart desires!!

Who knows, maybe the epiphany about my true calling is on its way :)

hmmnnn....

the wait is on then...?

i couldnt help noticing "meaningful work" and "international development" in one of the comments on this thread. thats an idea, actually. i do something similar. very much national though...and all i can say (at risk of sounding cliched) is that - It's Different!

:D

@ Gina.
Wow. I'm giving career advice... Anyhoo... My recommendation is this; ask yourself what it is that you truly, deeply enjoy doing. Not just what you don't mind doing, what really gets you going. The kind of thing you could do fifteen hours at a stretch. You should have your answer.

Hey, it's the only thing that worked for me...

Paradox Philic said...

Preeti - Are you by any chance in social research? I noticed Research mentioned in your profile.

I am in no way contesting the "sense of meaning" it would provide.

Just that (as i said earlier) i dont want to do anything similar to what i am doing. :)

Yes i am in research too!

Pragnya - Adventure is good i agree. Just a minor glitch in this plan...cant think of any adventure which pays unless by adventure you mean marrying the next rich guy i see (I do need someone to foot the bills, if not myself, right?) :P

Then i could probably decide what i really want to do without having to worry about the bills...or maybe do everything i ever wanted to do (like not working at all and enrolling myself in all the hobby classes that my heart desires without having to think about the time i would need to find for the same!)

Jhayu - Do you know anyone who would hire me for sleeping, watching tv for endless hours, blogging, listen to music, enjoying wind blowing through my hair with music plugged in my ears on a long drive on a traffic less road, watch a water body in its glory perched on the top of a rock, drinking & dancing......??

Cos those are the only things that i can do for fifteen hours at a stretch. Really...nothing else crosses my mind!

he he, I wish we could all afford to stop doing what we are just coz. we are bored and not coz. we don't have anything better to do :P

But we don't have an un-employment allowance... So get back to work :)

Paradox Philic said...

Rakesh - Yeah... unemployment allowance...sigh!!! I wish we had that luxury!!!

Hmmm...Hmmmm You know what PP, Quit your Job, and back-pack around the globe for a year. By the end of it, you may see the light. You have been working for a decade now. Take a sabbatical from work, and just travel, re-discover yourself. It will not only rejuvenate you but will help you know and understand what you truly want. Its not necessary to continue doing what we did previously. Change is dynamic and so is Life.

Preeti said...

yeah social research - public health to be specific.

hmmnnn...i hope whatever it is passes soon and you get all your answers. to your satisfaction.

:-)

till then you always have us and our words to entertain you.
:p

Paradox Philic said...

Preeti - I hope so too :)
...and yes you are right about me enjoying your words.. i do, really!

change is for sure only constant and for good usually...

Afaque - So true...
